Our Story
As a current college composition instructor, I witnessed firsthand the evolving challenges posed by the increasing use of AI in academic settings. What I observed was a troubling trend: students relying heavily on AI tools without mastering the essential fundamentals of writing. This dependence wasn’t just about cutting corners; it was setting students up for long-term failure. The core skills of critical thinking, coherent structuring of arguments, and personal voice in writing were being neglected.
In the classroom, the situation was complicated. Many educators felt unequipped to identify and address AI-generated content. Others were hesitant, fearing backlash or lacking institutional support. This created an environment where the misuse of AI could flourish unchecked, compromising the educational process and the integrity of academic work.
On the flip side, there was another significant issue: the wrongful accusation of students based on flawed AI detection tools. Many so-called “AI checkers” turned out to be modern-day snake oil, with no scientific basis and a high rate of false positives. Students producing genuine work were unjustly penalized, undermining their academic efforts and damaging their trust in the educational system.
Recognizing these dual challenges – the misuse of AI and the failure of AI detection tools – inspired me to take action. It became clear that a balanced approach was needed, one that leverages the benefits of AI while ensuring students learn and adhere to the fundamentals of writing.
Thus, our mission was born. We are committed to developing ethical AI guidelines, fostering transparent and fair AI practices in education, and empowering both students and educators. By doing so, we aim to uphold the integrity of the learning process, ensuring that technology enhances rather than hinders academic growth.
